Teaneck (/ˈtiːnɛk/) is a township in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States, and a bedroom community in the New York metropolitan area. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township’s population was 39,776, reflecting an increase of 516 (+1.3%) from the 39,260 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 1,435 (+3.8%) from the 37,825 counted in the 1990 Census. As of 2010, it was the second-most populous among the 70 municipalities in Bergen County, behind Hackensack, which had a population of 43,010.
Teaneck was created on February 19, 1895, by an act of the New Jersey Legislature from portions of Englewood Township and Ridgefield Township, both of which are now defunct (despite existing municipalities with similar names), along with portions of Bogota and Leonia. Independence followed the result of a referendum held on January 14, 1895, in which voters favored incorporation by a 46–7 margin. To address the concerns of Englewood Township’s leaders, the new municipality was formed as a township, rather than succumbing to the borough craze sweeping across Bergen County at the time. On May 3, 1921, and again on June 1, 1926, portions of what had been Teaneck were transferred to Overpeck Township.
You don’t have to tear out your old steps or stoops if you want to renovate your home. The fact is, masonry stairs and stoops are durable and attractive. Besides, these are available in many types of stones. From limestone to granite, they’ll enhance the look of your house and match its decor. Here are some tips to get started. You can use pavers and stone to make the entrance look more attractive.
To begin the process of restoring your stairway or stoops, you need to make sure that they’re in good shape. Cracked masonry may lead to slips and falls and could be a potential cause of these incidents. Sabba’s Landscaping specializes in masonry work and can repair or develop new stairways for your home. You can even contact them if you have an idea for a stairway or stoops.
Measure the width and depth of the steps and then mark the first stringer with the rise and run measurements. You should choose rot resistant wood with few knots and follow the desired pitch line for the stair. You should then cut the stringers in zigzag pattern, measuring the depth and rise of each step. Afterwards, check each step to see that it is level. When you’re satisfied with the height and quality, you can proceed with the rest of the project.
If your stoop has multiple steps, it’s recommended to build it wider than your doorway. Additionally, make sure you secure it to your home with a side wall. You can also use railings on both sides of the stoop if it has three or more steps. If you have several steps, you may want to install a skirting apron underneath the steps. For a more decorative effect, consider adding a colored concrete step or stoops that match your home’s color scheme.
