Teaneck (/ˈtiːnɛk/) is a township in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States, and a bedroom community in the New York metropolitan area. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township’s population was 39,776, reflecting an increase of 516 (+1.3%) from the 39,260 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 1,435 (+3.8%) from the 37,825 counted in the 1990 Census. As of 2010, it was the second-most populous among the 70 municipalities in Bergen County, behind Hackensack, which had a population of 43,010.
Teaneck was created on February 19, 1895, by an act of the New Jersey Legislature from portions of Englewood Township and Ridgefield Township, both of which are now defunct (despite existing municipalities with similar names), along with portions of Bogota and Leonia. Independence followed the result of a referendum held on January 14, 1895, in which voters favored incorporation by a 46–7 margin. To address the concerns of Englewood Township’s leaders, the new municipality was formed as a township, rather than succumbing to the borough craze sweeping across Bergen County at the time. On May 3, 1921, and again on June 1, 1926, portions of what had been Teaneck were transferred to Overpeck Township.
While there are many advantages to paver patios, you should know that they are not ideal for every homeowner. The materials that are used for a patio must be durable and withstand the elements. There are a number of ways to protect a paver patio from erosion. Below are some tips to help you choose the right patio material. For best results, lay down at least six inches of compacted gravel. Then, lay a thin layer of plastic over it. This will create a strong base for your paver patio, and prevent weeds from growing through it.
Before laying the pavers, you need to dig the base and the level it should be. Before laying the pavers, you should use landscaping cloth to protect the pavers from weeds. The base of the patio should be level and the slope should be controlled to ensure even drainage. After laying the pavers, you can install solid edges with a cement or stone paver. This will ensure the pavers will not shift and can prevent any cracks.
Another benefit of paver patios is their durability. Unlike wood or other materials, pavers are not easily damaged or dented. This makes them very durable and affordable. Also, they can look great. And if you’re a homeowner who is looking for a way to increase the curb appeal of their property, pavers are a great solution for your patio. You can even use them to upgrade your front porch. For more personality and style, consider adding trendy bricks.
You can also plant flagstones to accent your seating area or path between the cooking area and seating area. If you’d like to use flagstone, you can lay it in the center of the patio and surround it with standard pavers. The combination of these materials will give you a unique patio design. It will evoke the feeling of a natural stone patio. This way, you can enjoy the patio year round. Once you’ve completed the installation, you can sit back and relax.
A paver patio may require periodic maintenance. The polymer sand joints should be tended to every couple of years. They may require touch-ups if they have washed away. This may not be as appealing as you’d like. For your paver patio to remain beautiful, you should schedule maintenance every few years. You should also be sure to purchase additional pavers for repairs. So, paver maintenance is essential if you want to enjoy your patio for many years.
Another factor that you should take into consideration when choosing a paver patio is durability. Many traditional patios will crack and shift as the ground shifts, causing stress to the patio. In addition, traditional patios will not last long because they tend to be made of wood. Likewise, natural stone patios can last for decades without any major maintenance. But you should make sure to have a patio contractor check the sand quality first before you make your final decision.
When deciding whether to install your own paver patio, ask for a quote and find out what materials you’ll need. While a paver patio may be slightly more expensive than a concrete pad, it will give you a 69 percent return on your investment. Plus, your unique patio may be a selling point for potential home buyers. When choosing paver patios for your home, ask yourself whether you’re going to use concrete or a concrete pad for the surface.
Adding utilities isn’t automatically included in the cost of a paver patio. You’ll probably need additional electrical outlets if you want to use electricity. The additional cost will be between $500 and $1,900. If you need water lines or gas lines, they’ll cost another $400 to $1,900. This can add another $20 to $30 per square foot. And of course, you’ll need to buy additional bricks or stone if you want to install hot tubs or other entertainment items.
Adding a paver patio to your home can be expensive, but there are ways to cut costs. The average price of a paver patio can range from $2,400 to $7,500, or more. Even if you decide to install a paver patio yourself, you should hire someone to install it to make it look more professional. If you decide to do it yourself, you can expect to spend about 50 to 80 hours on the project.
